Personal weakness as a carpet cleaner

Hi Nanyukians,
Today I talk about a personal weakness as a Rug and carpet cleaner and how I worked around it. This is Njinjima Njeru, for many of us carpet cleaners, we only talk about our strengths but often shy from speaking out about our personal weaknesses. Well in this case, I am over-detailed and really go out of my way to give it the best performance because I love to please my customers every single time. This is a huge problem and I agree with most of you, yes it is amazing.

I tend to work on everything that my eyes land on and I feel that my service to detail is a hindrance because every time I jump in the workshop I want to please the customer. This happens a lot with almost every cleaner. Domestically and professionally fail to see the bigger picture. The reality is I don’t have to be over-detailed on every random clean because that is not how the job is set up. I have managed to STRENGTHEN this WEAKNESS by working with checklists and deadlines. Let me walk you through the scenario and explain how it works, every single rug or carpet that comes in is inspected, sorted to identify which areas require more time and dedication to detail, and use a checklist to go through each step by step. The deadline ensures that each rug gets its dedicated time exclusively and I am able to work on each rug at a time. The same reason you have a checklist while going shopping, otherwise you could end up spending the whole day comparing new brands on the shelves. The new brands on the shelf in this case are rugs and carpets just brought in.
